Doom: Evil Unleashed

Okay, to start off, I'll introduce myself as Sid "The Spaz" Tyler. On many sites I'm known as "The Spazztik One", on others, I'm referred to as "Soul Tornado", referencing a Megadeth fandom. Anyway, with me, as well as a hefty crew of former id Software members from the early 90s, I have constructed what seems to be a faithful recreation of the Doom universe according to Tom Hall. However, I have done this in an RPG format.

Work on the Doom RPG project began in late June, its roots reaching DoomWorld and Slimesalad.com first. Over many months, contact with former id employees was gained, and helped to further the project. Conversations were recorded between Tom Hall and I, discussing some aspects of the "what-was-to-be-Doom", as well as the information stored in the Doom Bible, a document that contained most of the information for this. From there, I found mapping and other useful information.

From the information gathered, I am in the process of making the full 6-episode format as described, with Hall's story fitting in, as well as tidbits of my own applied details. From that, came this ad to BiFrost (my Game studio)'s website:

The Story So Far-
The United Aerospace Corporation is the largest corporate entity known to man today.
With unlimited funds, and the ability to mold areas into habitable land with their
Terraformer units, the UAC colonizes worlds far beyond our own. They hope, as well,
to establish a connection to whatever life is out there, and if it exceeds our own.
Months after Terraformer units were sent to the UAC's newly-colonized desert-moon
Tei Tenga, they uncovered something astounding: it appeared to be a portal of some
sort. Another was found some time later at the southern pole of the moon's Lightside.
The areas seem to be equidistant from each other, and from the looks of them, they
seemed to be gateways to other dimensions! Attempts were made to open these
portals, to almost no avail, until the unexpected happened...
They never saw it coming. As of a few short hours ago, the UAC's
main dimensional gateways on both sides of the Tei Tenga moon burst open after a short
portal-spawning experiment, and with its release, sent hordes upon hordes of deadly
creatures into the farthest reaches of the moon.
They got what was coming to them. The idea of opening a gateway to another dimension was
an idea too uncomprehensible for one man alone. Their discovery only brought them death.
Now only few pockets of existence remain on the moon's surface as an invasion begins.
Some of these noted survivors are located in the still-operational facilities that hold
ground on the moon's surface, as well as the standing few cities on the moon. The survivors
knew one thing: the only safe and sane place now was behind the trigger of a gun.
Among these survivors was the infamous Alpha Team, whom only hours earlier were sitting in
the moon's Lightside hangar playing a game of cards, before the invasion struck...---
The story for this game was revised after a brief meeting with Tom Hall, who made the original story for Doom, on which this game is based on. The new storyline sequence is: Evil Unleashed, Through Hell and Back, Knee Deep in the Dead.

And here is the recorded conversation between me and Hall:

(Me, about an hour ago):
Hey, I just checked out the Doom Bible, for reference to see if anything could help me out with my game, but a lot of the stuff was blank. Is there anything else that was planned, but never made it into that? If you have anymore info on that, could you please help me out on it? I'm quite fascinated with the original Tei Tenga story, which sadly never made it, it would have been a great add-on to the released game.
(Tom, about an hour ago):
I don't own that stuff, id does, but if it's not for money, it is prooobably no biggie.
All those notes are packed away and inaccessible right now. There was originally the United (not Union) Aerospace Corporation, and then a military government agency behind them, whose logo looked similar to the ship between two-planets one, but it was the ship *bombing* a planet. Tei Tenga was a discovered moon of a planet around a nearby star -- so they had that "we alone in this, far from home" feeling from Alien. They were doing very dangerous experiments of trying to open a hole to another dimension, and succeeded, and thought they had opened a hole to a place with aliens... but grew to realize it was actually Hell -- so science and religion kind of collided in the story.
The arc was demons in our normal world, then a journey into Hell, then coming back to the darkside base of Tei Tenga, it was our world perverted -- what the kind of did with Doom2.
You were going to start with three friends in the scene playing cards, then a demon comes in the room and kills the others (unless you had three co-op friends -- basically kills whatever spots aren't taken by players. Then Buddy had run off and was giving you updates and things to dread up ahead, and when you finally get to him, he's suddenly shredded in half, a la Ash in Aliens, and it's the boss of Episode 1, which has obviously proved himself really dangerous.
At least that's something! Good luck!
(Me, a few minutes after):
  • Thanks Tom! Good thing it's not for money. It's just a fanmade game. I actually have the card-playing scene, and, since it is an RPG game, I had a few members from the DB, and added them in as teammates, where you find in the game later on. It' be kinda weird to play an RPG game with no team members, unless you're going for Hack-and-slash, or something like Ultima.
So that "portal to another dimension" thing, It wasn't teleportation in the beginning? I kinda read it like that in the beginning when I read the outro for Evil Unleashed. But as I got further on into the document, It had the canyonside entrance to Hell, which didn't sound like teleportation at all! So far though, I have the Rollee chairs, although they make no sound when moved. I found some fan-made sprites for flying imps, which I was to put in there. So far, everything's going quite well. I also read in there about another moon where one final hell-hole was to be, but it was on an unnamed moon. Was that to be Phobos/Deimos, or another completely different one? Oh, and as for Dacote, you see him briefly in the intro to the game, just exiting the room. When you hear the screams and the demon entrance in the first part though, you find Buddy's BEoS cap in the hall, (which I think either Pietrovich or Paramo found).
Other than that, work's being done on the maps, and some of the results are actually turning out quite well, considering all the maptiles i had to redraw by hand, and make it look like the Alphas.
I think I may throw in a pic to one of the areas in the game... hold on. Oh yes, here it is: http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/219/4/7/tei_tenga_hallway_wip_by_thespazztikone-d45rpbz.jpg I also added some of the Security cameras mentioned in there. I'm not exactly sure where to put the Unholy bible and other items just yet though (perhaps later on?) A Dopefish has been added to the top right area of the Tei Tenga hangar, where you can find it if you look hard enough. (it's actually through a glitched wall which I never bothered to fix, and you can walk through it., near the +100 HP Soulsphere in the map.) Oh, and some of the stuff was changed around a slight bit, because I was originally going to have it be based on the "Phobos/Deimos" story, but am in the process in changing the story to include Tei Tenga. The mess halls are there, I'm making the other areas soon. There's also a few shower areas as well. Man, why do I kepp rambling about this. If you want to check it out, I do have a working link to the game portion that's finished so far. i'll post if you're interested: http://www.mediafire.com/?19vv205ib719ete Also, thanks for helping me out on this tom. It's very much appreciated.

(Tom, later):
Oh yeah, maybe teleportation experiments... forget since it's been almost 20 years!
The mundane stuff is there to make the crazy invasion scarier -- like they do in a million horror movies.
(Me, minutes after):
    • thanks again, Tom. Good luck with your work, sir.
      (Tom, final comment):
      NP, thanks!
--End Conversation--

Short, but the information gathered was sweet. John Romero, one of the main map designers for Doom, had playtested the game once (upon respectful request). As of right now, the first episode, Evil Unleashed, is being worked on at the time of this writing.
